Veterinary Anatomical Museum

The museum was founded in 1818 in private form thanks to the anatomical preparations used for the study of veterinary medicine carried out at the school owned by Vincenzo Mazza. Since 1965, its location has been within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on Viale delle Piagge 2.
Horses, dromedaries (many from the San Rossore park) and other species prepared through injection: the body of the animal was dissected and the unnecessary parts were removed; before the decomposition process, consolidating substances (beeswax, arsenic) were injected into the vessels and the surface of the animal was sprinkled with the same substance to give it a more polished appearance. The museum is part of the University Museum System, S.M.A.
